A Mastermind Group is a group of individuals coming together as for the purpose of assisting each other in the achievement of their personal and business goals. Each individual brings their experiences, skills, abilities, and knowledge to the group. Leveraging this collective power can dramatically change your business and personal life.
Mastermind Groups can be formed around any subject. People could meet to discuss parenting, business, gardening, home improvement and much more. The majority of mastermind groups are formed for one aspect of business or another. The main focus for the group should be clearly defined so that all can come together to grow in a particular area. Participants can be of similar background to have similar ideas, or different backgrounds to bring in a wider range of ideas. There needs to be a definite understanding of who is appropriate for the group. A mastermind group for established business owners may not be appropriate for someone who is thinking about starting a business but not yet done so. Why? Someone with absolutely no experience in running a business may not be able to provide the same ideas and support as someone that has had the experience of being in the trenches of actually running a business.
Being a member of a mastermind group allows one to tap into the power and wisdom of many, and put in place a support group to assist all in attaining personal and professional goals. This is in stark contrast to the individual who struggles to build and shape an entire business alone. The concept of being in business by yourself no longer applies. The group, in effect, becomes your personal “Board of Directors” or “Board of Advisors”. You may already have such a group in your circle that consists of people such as your accountant and attorney. Typically, these individuals assist you in running your business on a day-to-day basis and do not participate in long-range goal setting and achievement. While it is possible to grow and think up solutions for the growth of your business without the help of others, this is a valuable resource that can help you grow faster.
Participants must be able and willing to objectively give and share with the group. Sharing allows you to process things better in your brain as you are talking to a group of people who genuinely care and this allows you clarity of thought so as to be able to set more definite and realistic goals. To benefit the most from a Mastermind group, follow the “Givers Gain!” creed. In addition, being involved also calls for accountability on your part. There can be no excuses not to get things done as you are not only answerable to yourself, but to your other group members as well.
